Spanning three generations and five decades, The Plan Group is a family owned, independent insurance intermediary delivering high-quality coverage from market-leading insurers in niche commercial and personal lines insurance. We employ over 60 staff across 2 offices and write over £25 million in Gross Written Premium (GWP).

In November 2017, after 11 years as Marketing Director, youngest member of the family’s 2nd generation, Grant stepped up to become Group MD with a remit to deliver significant growth. Working within a small, close knit and dynamic management team Grant has developed TPG’s overall business strategy, leading the firm to become forward thinking and digitally minded.

Andrew Gibbons ACII, MIoD

Andrew is the MD of Mason Owen Financial Services Ltd (MOFS), a commercial insurance broker in Liverpool. He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a Chartered Insurance Broker, leading a management buyout in 2022. He joined Provincial Insurance in 1987, which became AXA Insurance, and later joined MOFS. Andrew chaired the BIBA Smaller Brokers Advisory Board (SBAB) from 2015 to 2020 and served on the main BIBA board during the same period. He has been the Chair of the Industry Claims Working Group for the past 13 years.

Tony Norcott

Tony Norcott is Chair and founder of the Circle Insurance Group which incorporates a Lloyd’s of London accredited firm, an underwriting group and a wealth management business.  Come 1st August 2025 he will be celebrating his 65th anniversary since joining the industry in 1960 coupled to a 45 year involvement with Lloyd’s of London.  Outside of insurance he enjoys family life coupled to a keen interest in golf and its history, also a motor enthusiast he owns an eclectic selection of cars.   

Ewan MacDonald

Ewan started his career with the family business, MacDonald Group in 1992, initially looking after the personal motor and household clients. He progressed into handling all lines of commercial related business across the organisation and ultimately, led the business to develop a very strong reputation in the Scottish market for service and delivery. MacDonald Group joined Partners& in 2022, and in 2024, Ewan was appointed CEO (North) to lead the combined Scotland and North regions for Partners&. Ewan is a professional men’s curling champion, having played for his country over 250 occasions in the World Junior Curling Championships, World Men’s Curling Championships, European Championships, European Mixed Championships and Olympic games.

Ian McCarron

Ian McCarron has injected 20 years’ insurance experience into Leeds-based specialist fleet and commercial insurance brokerage, McCarron Coates. With a finger continually on the pulse of the fleet sector, and as one of the most respected authorities within it, Ian is a go-to expert for some of the biggest brands and authorities in coach, courier and haulage. He and fellow directors, Paul Coates and Luigi Maggio, have driven phenomenal business growth and created initiatives shaping the fleet transport insurance agenda. Four industry awards since November 2019, including Commercial Broker of the Year (UK Broker Awards 2021), highlight the brokerage’s impact.

Karen Weir CertCll

Karen started her career with Norwich Union (Aviva) in 1990, in Newcastle then Norwich and became a broker in 1999.  She set up a finance company, and with her husband took over his family firm, along with 2 other local acquisitions.
She has three children (now grown up) and is still running that firm established originally in 1972 and will be celebrating their 53rdyear of trading.
Karen served as Newcastle Insurance Institute president in 2008-2009, and is the current chair of the British Insurance Brokers Association’s (BIBA) SME Board, and a main BIBA board member.
Karen served 7 years as a Board member and 3 as chair of the Board at Newcastle Gymnastics Academy (CNGA) and is now a board member of Changing Minds with Pick Up a Penny, a North East Community Interest Company who use an individualised approach to mental and physiological health and therapeutic services for adults, children, young people and their families.
Hobbies include an obsession for Reformer Pilates (IYKYK), boxing  and walking my disabled dog, although she don’t take much walking!
When I grow up I hope to own my own kennel free rescue for the dogs no one wants!

Lea Cheesbrough

As CEO of Movo Partnership since 2018, Lea Cheesbrough has been recognised as one of Insurance Business UK’s Elite Women and has grown Movo from a start-up to the fastest-growing and now the largest AR network for insurance brokers in the UK.
Her vision and commitment have earned Movo multiple awards, including Network of the Year at the Broker Innovation Awards in 2022 and 2023, and Growth Company of the Year at the National Insurance Awards. Lea was also named Broker Personality of the Year at the UK Broker Awards 2023.
With over 20 years in insurance, she has held senior roles with leading insurers and brokers. Looking ahead, Lea is focused on future-proofing Movo’s services by strengthening the core Partnership offering and expanding support through initiatives like the Movo Accelerator for start-ups and Movo Fusion for directly authorised brokers. Her goal is simple: to keep independent local brokers thriving for years to come.

Chris Barclay

In his previous roles, Chris was the Managing Director at Marsh and Compass Director and Head of Affinity & Direct at Thistle Insurance.

Now at Superscript, Chris is focused on transforming insurance with tech-driven solutions for the SME marketplace. His extensive touchpoints across the insurance landscape and keen eye for innovation help to steer Superscript’s growth and competitive edge in the industry.
