David Smith

David Smith has been economics editor of The Sunday Times since 1989, where he writes a weekly column. He is also an assistant editor and policy adviser.
He writes monthly columns for Professional Investor, British Industry and The Manufacturer, and is also a regular contributor to the CBI's Business Voice and other publications.
Prior to joining The Sunday Times, he worked for The Times, Financial Weekly, Now! Magazine, the Henley Centre for Forecasting and Lloyds Bank. 
A widely respected economics commentator, David is the author of several books, including The Rise and Fall of Monetarism; Mrs Thatcher's Economics; North and South; From Boom to Bust; UK Current Economic Policy; Eurofutures; Will Europe Work?; Free Lunch: Easily Digestible Economics; The Dragon & the Elephant: China, India and the New World Order; The Age of Instability: The Global Financial Crisis and What Comes Next, and - in 2015 - Something Will Turn Up; Britain's Economy Past, Present and Future.
He was born and brought up in the West Midlands and studied at the Universities of Wales, Oxford and London. He is a visiting professor at both Cardiff University and Nottingham University, and has lectured at Nottingham's Malaysia and Ningbo (China) campuses. He has won a number of awards, including the Harold Wincott Senior Financial Journalist of the Year Award, the 2013 Economics Commentator of the Year Award and the 2014 Business Journalist of the Year Award in the London Press Awards.

Richard Thompson

Richard Thompson is the founder and chief executive of M&CSaatchiMerlin, a creative talent management agency that manages the careers of names such as Freddie Flintoff, Jamie Redknapp, Sir Bradley Wiggins and David Gandy. MCSaatchiMerlin is the first management agency to be acquired by a global advertising agency.

Richard also has a solid reputation in private equity, helping to turn around TV production company TwoFour which was sold to ITV Studios in 2016, where he remains as chairman. Until last year, he was chairman of MAMA Group, the UK's biggest independent live music company, which he successfully exited on behalf of Lloyds Development Capital (LDC), selling the company to Live Nation.

He is the youngest ever Chairman of Surrey County Cricket Club and a Non-Exec Director of The ECB.

He is passionate about social mobility having left school at 16 with 5 O-levels, and set up his first company selling computers when he was 19. He built his second company, EMS, into a £25m information technology company, which was sold to Mosaic Group plc. He has successfully founded three businesses which have all been sold or floated.

Richard, who lost his father to dementia in January 2017, is a very warm supporter of Alzheimer's Society and has raised thousands of pounds through his fundraising activities. A keen cyclist, Richard has twice taken on the challenge of Ride London, a 100 mile distance event, to raise funds for dementia and Alzheimer's Society. He was one of the top fundraisers for the 2017 ride. Richard also helped in the marketing of the charity's new brand - United Against Dementia - and is always willing to lend his support either in person or through his social media accounts.

Steve works across the public, private and third sector, with both agencies and those who buy from them. He leverages commercial expertise gained during his time in house and has a passion for the sectors he works with for the benefit of clients.
