2C: Build, enable or partner? Making the right technology choices for your brokerage

Session

Information

Technology has become fundamental to how brokerages operate, compete and grow, but greater choice is creating a new challenge for leaders: deciding where to invest. Should firms build their own capabilities, make greater use of the technology available through their existing platforms, or partner with third-party providers to bring new solutions into the business?

As broker management systems become increasingly open and connected, the opportunities to integrate new technology, data and digital trading capabilities are expanding. However, each approach brings different considerations around cost, control, differentiation, implementation and adoption.

This roundtable will bring broker leaders together to explore how they are making those decisions in practice, where investment is delivering genuine value and how a more connected technology ecosystem could change the way brokers trade and operate.

  • Build, enable or partner: what are the advantages and trade-offs of each approach, and how should brokers decide which is right for their business?
  • Investment versus differentiation: when does building proprietary capability create genuine competitive advantage, and when is established technology the more effective option?
  • Connecting the technology ecosystem: how APIs,      external data and third-party solutions are changing what brokers can build around their core platforms.
  • From automated to integrated trading: how digital trading is moving beyond smaller SME risks and where greater integration can remove inefficiency, reduce E&O exposure and improve data quality.
  • Making technology stick: avoiding the “shiny new toy” problem and ensuring investment is adopted by teams and delivers the outcomes originally promised.
