Barry Smith, CEO, Ageas
Barry Smith took on the role of chief executive for Ageas UK in 2001, having spent his career in financial services. In his role at Ageas, Barry has been responsible for spearheading the business in its strategy to become a profitable manufacturer and retailer of insurance solutions in the UK, developing a range of award-winning customer-focused propositions that are unparalleled in the market. As part of an Ageas Group management restructure, Barry joined the Group's Management Committee reporting directly to Ageas Group CEO, Bart De Smet. In addition to leading the UK business, Barry sits on the Ageas Group Management Committee which defines and implements the corporate strategy, business plans, budgets and operational activities across Ageas's global companies in both the life and non-life markets. Barry is the immediate past president of the CII and chaired the Task Force which launched the Aldermanbury Declaration. He is also chairman of the ABI Property Committee and a member of the ABI GIC Management Committee.
